WASTEWATER

Municipal wastewater treatment plays a pivotal role in safeguarding human health and the environment by removing solids, nutrients and pathogens and, increasingly, trace organic contaminants such as bio-persistent pharmaceuticals.  Excessive nutrients fuel algal blooms and deplete dissolved oxygen in rivers and lakes, while residual pathogens and micropollutants threaten downstream ecosystems and public health.  De Nora addresses these challenges through a portfolio of proven and emerging technologies from deep‐bed filtration and gas‐chlorine disinfection to advanced oxidation processes that together enable solids separation, nutrient removal, pathogen inactivation and micropollutant destruction.  Central to our disinfection strategy is the CECHLO™ MS ion-exchange membrane electrolyzer, which generates high-strength (12 %) sodium hypochlorite, chlorine gas and sodium hydroxide on demand and on site.  By eliminating the hazards and logistics of transporting and storing bulk chlorine, CECHLO™ MS not only reduces operational risk and cost but also delivers precise, energy-efficient disinfection that can be seamlessly integrated with oxidation or UV systems for enhanced removal of trace organics.  With over 40 years of electrolysis expertise, intuitive control platforms and a commitment to water‐ and energy-efficient design, De Nora continues to innovate, ensuring that the treated water you discharge—or reuse—meets the strictest regulatory standards while conserving our limited water resources 

DESALINATION

Desalination is increasingly essential for securing reliable freshwater supplies from seawater and brackish sources, yet its cost and environmental footprint hinge on effective pre-treatment, membrane protection and discharge management.  Suspended solids, organics and marine microorganisms must be removed or inactivated before reverse osmosis (RO) to prevent fouling, scaling and biofilm formation—while brine concentrates require careful handling to mitigate ecological impact.  De Nora’s integrated suite of solutions addresses each stage: from deep-bed and ultrafiltration systems that deliver particle-free feedwater, to the CECHLO™ MS ion-exchange membrane electrolyzer that produces 12 % sodium hypochlorite, chlorine gas and sodium hydroxide on demand for precise, energy-efficient pre-chlorination, membrane cleaning and post-RO disinfection without hazardous chemical deliveries.  Combined with advanced oxidation processes to degrade trace organics in concentrate streams and automated dosing platforms that optimize chemical use, our technologies ensure long RO membrane life, lower life-cycle costs and environmentally responsible desalination—transforming raw seawater into safe, high-quality water for communities and industry.
